Is Your Wand Blocked?
No, we’re not talking to you Harry Potter. Clear out. We’re talking about a type of wand that creates a whole other kind of magic. Not spells, but lattes and cappuccinos. Yes, the steam wand.
Steam wands certainly do make beautiful (coffee-based) magic. But, alas, blocked steam wands, for those using traditional coffee machines, are a frustratingly common problem. It’s a symptom of either not purging well enough, quickly enough or not purging at all after texturing milk! (btw, did you know we offer full barista training, just get in touch here). Well, never fear, before you go calling out and waiting around for a qualified engineer, there is often a really quick fix to the problem which you can try first.
- Turn the machine off.
- Ensure the wand is in the closed position (the majority of wands are closed by turning them clockwise).
- Using a small pin or likewise, poke the pin in to the small jets at the end of the wand to free any milk residue.
- Turn the machine on.
- Ensuring the wand is pointing in to the drip tray, and away from your person, and open the wand by turning the knob anti clockwise
With any luck you’ll quickly hear the steam jets starting to work again and steam will be expelling from the wand once more. If this doesn’t work, it might be worth another go, following the same steps above.
Failing that, give us a call and we’ll be happy to arrange for one of our trained engineers to come out and fix the problem Pronto!
